Kerkorian Preparing a Return to Movies

Kerkorian Preparing a Return to Movies
Wall Street Journal Article

At 94 Kirk Kerkorian is doing exactly what we’d do if we were his age, or our age and had the means. As a disruptor, Kerkorian is putting his money where his mouth is. He knows that to make money in todays media centric megaworld of entertainment possibilities he needs to “cast a wide net” says  Jay Rakow in WSJ’s article. And this is the best part of his plan,  this is what impresses us the most: “he doesn’t have a particular dollar figure or timetable in mind for his investment”. With the team he has created to manage this, we don’t feel there will be a “single” acquisition. Nor do we expect to hear more about his teams plan until a strategic accumulation of acquisitions is already accomplished. (Like Michael Dell’s acquisition of various secondary broadcast bandwidth including Seattle and Bellingham, Wa…with the latter’s transaction receiving FCC approval 02/12)

What an opportunity: pick up a few globally situated botique production houses and one specific mid-range studio that can compete strongly against its mega-studio counterparts (massive overhead) to crank out a variety of content and cover today’s distribution platforms needs. And what platform will that be? Who will get gobbled up?! Share your thoughts with us.
